A community of lay men and women in central Indiana seeking to serve Jesus Christ through the Dominican pillars of prayer, community, study, and preaching.
“In him and through his blood, we have been redeemed, and our sins forgiven, so immeasurably generous is God’s favor to us.”
What if there had been no room in the stable? What if even the little room that the Holy Family needed had been denied to them. What if the innkeeper and his assistants had been negligent in keeping the stable clean or repairing a leak in the roof?
In a way, God asks so little from us in return for His love. All He wants is us, and we are so small, so little. Yet constantly, we let distractions get in between Him and us. Even the tiny gift of ourselves proves more than we are willing to part with.
We are fast approaching Lent. God asks that we rend our hearts, not our garments. My proposal is this: fast from food, yes, but also fast from what prevents us from making room in our heart’s stable. Take this time to clean it out. Soon we will need a place to lay out the Lord after his crucifixion. Let us, like Joseph of Arimathea, be generous in making room for the God who loves us. He has no place to lay His head, let us share what we have with Him.
