Several of our members watched the recent The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power television show available on Amazon Prime. Here were some thoughts:
Review 1:
“The plot of The Lord of the Rings of Power boils down to this: males are evil, unwise, and brutal. Women are strong, bold, and courageous . However, the clearest thread in common throughout this meandering tale is a lesson in obsessive compunction, an unquenchable thirst for vengeance and the destruction that it brings“
Review 2:
“In a Thomistic sense, there is nothing valuable about The Rings of Power. It points towards neither beauty, nor truth, nor goodness. In a Chestertonian sense, it is a removable fence. The work could be removed without impoverishing the world and, further, the case is strong that it was imprudent to create it in the first place. Money spent on the show would have been better spent on the poor or committed to better artists for better projects.”
